A Calm, Personalised Wedding Ceremony – Guided Every Step of the Way

A wedding ceremony outdoors with a bride, groom, and John.

Planning a wedding can feel like a whirlwind - but with the right celebrant by your side, it becomes a whole lot simpler.

I’m John, a Christchurch-based wedding celebrant with a calm, thoughtful approach (and a good sense of humour too). Whether you’re planning a heartfelt vineyard wedding, a barefoot beach elopement, or a simple ceremony with just your nearest and dearest, I’ll help guide you through the process from start to finish.

Let’s do this!

Here’s how it all works step-by-step.

Step 1: Let’s Have a Cuppa

Once you've decided I might be the right fit as your celebrant, we’ll meet up for a relaxed chat - over coffee if you're local, or by video if you're not. There’s no pressure at this stage; just a chance to get to know each other and see how I can help bring your vision to life.

You’ll tell me a little about your plans, and I’ll listen carefully. I’ll also explain how ceremonies typically unfold, and answer any questions you might have (there are no silly ones, by the way).

At this point, we’ll also complete a simple agreement to lock in your date.

Step 2: Crafting Your Ceremony

Whether you're after something traditional or a ceremony that’s entirely your own, I’ll work with you to shape a script that fits just right — one that reflects your personalities, your values, and your love story.

Some couples write their own vows, others prefer a little help. My partner Melissa and I can offer support with writing and structure, or even craft the full ceremony with your input. It’s all about what feels most you.

Step 3: Planning and Rehearsal

As the big day draws near, we’ll confirm all the important details — who’s involved, the order of events, and any special moments you’d like to include (readings, rituals, or that surprise ukulele performance from Uncle Dave).

We’ll also have a rehearsal, either at the venue or somewhere convenient, to walk through the ceremony with your key people. This helps everyone feel confident - and ensures things flow smoothly on the day.

Step 4: Your Wedding Day

You arrive at your venue, filled with nerves and excitement. You’ll find me there early, calm as ever, with everything in place and ready to go.

I’ll guide you, your guests, and anyone involved through the ceremony, delivering your story with warmth, clarity, and just the right amount of humour. You can relax knowing everything’s under control - and focus on what really matters: each other.

Your ceremony will be memorable, heartfelt, and entirely yours.

Step 5: After the Ceremony

Once you’ve sealed your vows and soaked up the applause, I’ll quietly step away so you can bask in the love and laughter of the day - surrounded by the people who matter most.

But there’s one more thing worth knowing:
$300 from your fee is donated to a Christchurch-based charity of your choice.

A little love paid forward.
