Planning a Small Wedding or Elopement in Canterbury?
Big weddings aren’t for everyone. And you know what?
Some of the most beautiful ceremonies I’ve led have been with just a handful of people - and sometimes, no one else at all.
If you’re dreaming of a small, heartfelt celebration somewhere in Canterbury - maybe up at Port Hills, or a windswept beach at Sumner - here are a few tips:
1. Choose Your Spot Carefully
Canterbury is spoilt for choice. Do you want mountains? Gardens? Vineyards? I know spots that feel like magic - and I’m always happy to recommend hidden gems.
2. Keep the Formalities Simple
You’ll still need a marriage licence and two witnesses (I can help guide you through that). But beyond that, the rest is up to you.
3. Focus on the Feeling
Fewer guests means more intimacy. That allows us to create a ceremony that’s really, truly yours - no performance, just meaning.
4. Add a Personal Touch
Include your dog. Walk in together. Write a letter instead of a speech. When you keep things small, you can break the rules a little - and that’s part of the fun.
Whether it’s your first wedding or your second chance at love, a smaller celebration can still be a big moment. I’d be honoured to help you shape it.
